For the Ginger Cookie
⅓ cupshortening
½ cupsugar
1egg
at room temperature
½ cupmolasses
½ cupwater
2 cupsall-purpose flour
½ tspsalt
½ tspbaking soda
1 tspground ginger
½ tspground nutmeg
½ tspground cloves
½ tspground cinnamon

For the Ginger Cookies
Step 1
Mix shortening, sugar, egg, molasses, and water thoroughly. Stir together dry ingredients in a separate bowl, then incorporate into wet ingredients and mix well. Chill dough for a minimum of 1 hour.
Step 2
Heat oven to 400°F. Line baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease.
Step 3
Drop dough by teaspoons about 2 inches apart on baking sheet. Bake about 8 minutes, or until almost no imprint remains when touched.
Step 4
Ice while slightly warm.
For the Icing
Step 5
Blend butter and sugar together until well creamed. Stir in cream and vanilla until smooth.
