Step 1
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Melt the butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour to form a paste. Add water, white and brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and cloves. Bring to a boil, then reduce temperature and let simmer.
Step 2
Place the bottom crust in the pan. Mix half the liquid mixture with the apples, then fill the crust with them, mounding slightly. Cut the other crust into strips and use them to cover the pie with a lattice. Gently brush the crust with the remaining liquid.
Step 3
Bake for 15 minutes in preheated oven. Reduce the temperature to 350 degrees. Continue baking 35-45 minutes or until golden brown.
