Ingredients

1red pepper
chopped
3celery stalks
finely chopped
1white onion
chopped
3cloves of garlic
minced
1 poundground beef
chicken or pork
1can tomato paste
4 cupsbroth
beef, vegetable or chicken
2bay leaves
½ tspthyme
½ tspbasil
½ tsporegano
½ tspparsley
½ tspblack pepper
1 tspgarlic powder
1 tsponion powder
1 tsppaprika
½ cuplong grain white rice
uncooked
3 cupscabbage
roughly chopped
Instructions
Step 1
In a large pot, cook the ground meat, season to liking and remove from pot once browned.
Step 2
Continuing in the same pot, add the red pepper, celery, onion, garlic and butter. Cook on medium heat until the onions are translucent.
Step 3
Add tomatoes paste and simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 4
After 5 minutes and the tomato paste has thoroughly coated your vegetables, add the ground meat back to the pot, as well as the canned tomatoes, broth, herbs and spices. Bring to a boil.
Step 5
Once boiling, add the rice and cabbage. Turn down to medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let simmer until the rice is cooked and the cabbage is tender.
Step 6
If the stew is too thick, thin with more broth. Salt to taste.
