Chop the onion into small cubes. Fry it in the pan with some oil until onion turns golden brown color.

Peel the apples, cut them in larger cubes, put in a pan together with the onion, season with honey, mustard, lemon juice, salt, pepper, and stir. Fry everything on a low heat for about 10 minutes until apples will get tender, but not too soft. Then leave the relish to cool.
Step 4
Chop herring strips in small pieces, put them into serving dishes and cover with the relish.
