Instructions

Step 1
In a spacious bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, sugar, and warm milk. Begin kneading the dough in the bowl, then transfer it to the kitchen counter, kneading for 6-8 minutes until the dough becomes elastic and smooth. Move the dough to a clean, oiled bowl, greasing the top with a bit of olive oil, and cover it with a towel (or cling film). Allow it to rise in a warm place for approximately 1-1.5 hours.
Step 2
Once the dough has risen, transfer it to a work surface, giving it a light knead. Roll out the dough into a rectangle measuring 25-35 cm. Spread the tomato sauce, leaving about 2 cm untouched from one of the longer edges, and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Roll the dough tightly, starting from the longer edge with tomato sauce.
Step 3
Using a thread, cut the roll into 9 equal pieces (about 3.5 cm each). Place them in a square baking dish (23 cm * 23 cm) lined with parchment, ensuring space between them for rising. Cover the dish with a towel and let it rise for 15-20 minutes.
Step 4
Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 190°C. Brush the rolls with a bit of milk, sprinkle with optional crunchy sesame seeds salt, and bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden.
