Step 1
Place onion in medium-sized saucepan. Add tomatoes, squashing each with your hand. Add approximately 1/2 cup water to empty can, swirl around to get all the remaining tomato out, and pour into pot. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to boil (be careful to stir as it will pop out of pan). Turn down heat to low, cover and cook for an hour, stirring to keep from sticking. Taste for seasoning. At this point, you can turn it off and just leave it on the stove, turn back on later to use. You can also use an immersion blender if you prefer a pureed sauce. Freezes well.
