Instructions
Step 1
Start by slicing up your onions.
Step 2
With a dutch oven on medium heat, melt the butter and then add in the olive oil.
Step 3
Add your onions and cook, stirring frequently, for about 45 mins-1 hour.
Step 4
Once your onions are soft, add the flour and salt and pepper. Cook for 1-2 mins to cook the raw flour.
Step 5
Add the beef broth, bay leaf and worchestershire sauce. Bring it to a boil and then turn down to a simmer.
Step 6
Let it simmer for 45 mins to 1 hour.
Step 7
Oil and toast your bread under the broiler. Mine took less than a minute, but you know your own oven, so just don't let them burn. Spoon the soup into oven safe bowls and top with bread and cheese. Broil until the cheese is melted and lightly browned.
