Preparation
Step 1
Peel the potatoes and onions and thinly slice
Step 2
Use the butter to grease the bottom and sides of the pot, then add the cooking oil
Layering the pot
Step 3
Line the bottom of the pot with a layer of potatoes, and then add a layer of onions. Season with black pepper salt and ½ the garlic and chives before topping off with some grated cheddar cheese
2nd & 3rd Layers
Step 4
Add a second and third layer in exactly the same way omitting the garlic and chives from the last layer. Top off with a generous layer of grated cheese
Cooking
Step 5
Place in the slow cooker and cook for 5 – 6 hours on a medium heat.
Grill to brown off
Step 6
When the potatoes are soft when probed with a fork remove the pot and place under a hot grill for 5 – 10 minutes to brown the dish off
Serving suggestion
Step 7
This could be eaten as part of a number of meals, we had ours with eggs and bacon
