Instructions

Step 1
1. Preheat oven to 375*F. trim roots and dark green leaves from leeks, leaving white and pale green parts. Cut leeks in half lengthwise. Rinse well under cold running water. Drain and pat dry. Cut leek halves into 1/4-inch-thick slices. Place slices in a 1 1/2-qt Au gratin dish or rectangular baking dish. 2. In a small bowl combine cream and broth; pour over leeks in dish. Sprinkle with marjoram, thyme, 1/2 tsp salt, and 1/2 tsp freshly ground pepper. Cover tightly with foil, and bake for 20 minutes. 3. While baking, in another small bowl stir together bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, and thyme leaves. Drizzle butter over and toss to coat. 4. Remove dish from oven and foil. Spread breadcrumb mixture and bake until leeks are softened and crumbs golden brown; another 30 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh thyme sprigs.
