Filipino Palitaw (flat sweet rice cakes)

If you're craving mochi, try this easier recipe instead! It's a Filipino sweet rice cake. It only takes a few minutes to boil, and only needs a simple garnish to turn it into a sweet dessert.

Step 1
In a large bowl, combine all the palitaw dough ingredients and knead until you get a smooth ball of dough.
Add small amounts of water at a time if the dough is too dry.
Step 2
Grab a small piece of dough and flatten it into a circle with your fingers. Set it aside on a plastic wrap-lined plate.
Repeat until you've used up all the dough.
Step 3
Take a large pot or shallow pan. Fill it with at least 2 inches of water, and bring to a boil.
Step 4
Add your flattened rice dough. Once they float in the boiling water, wait just a couple more minutes before removing them.
Step 5
Place the cooked palitaw on a plate and garnish with coconut.
Step 6
In a separate bowl, combine the sugar and sesame seeds. Sprinkle onto your palitaw, and enjoy!
