2 steps
Prep:15minCook:20min
This is a delicious and hearty breakfast dish that's perfect for leisurely weekend mornings or holiday brunches. Using challah bread, which is already slightly sweet and rich, takes the classic French toast up a notch. The thickness and fluffy texture of challah bread absorb the custard perfectly, giving you an ideal balance of crispy exterior and soft, melt-in-your-mouth interior. You can serve this with your favorite fruits and a drizzle of maple syrup or dust it with powdered sugar for an extra sweet touch.

Step 1
Slice the challah bread into 3/4-inch thick slices. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and nutmeg until well combined. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a pat of butter to melt, coating the pan's surface. Dip each slice of challah bread into the egg mixture, making sure each side is well soaked. Let any excess mixture drip off back into the bowl.
Step 2
Cook the soaked slices of bread on the heated skillet for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy. Be sure not to crowd the pan, cook in batches if necessary. Remove the cooked French toast from the skillet and keep warm in a low oven or covered with foil. Repeat the process with the remaining slices. Serve your challah French toast hot with a generous drizzle of maple syrup and your choice of fresh fruit or a dusting of powdered sugar.
