A cubano sandwich is a delicious combination of roasted pork, swiss cheese, ham, mustard and mayo on soft crusty bread. It’s not always easy to find a latin style bread in the grocery store but a portuguese style roll or an egg bread style roll such as brioche or challah will work well here. You can even use a bakery style hamburger or panini roll with great results - the goal is soft bread with a soft crust that can be grilled to achieve a bit of crunch/crispness. My family often finds a great sandwich is just enough for dinner. A salad on the side if you need a little something more is a great addition here. Go ahead and use chicken if you made it instead of pork this week. For a vegetarian version omit the meats with sliced mushrooms, zucchini or cucumbers. Crispy fried tofu or tempeh is also a perfect addition in place of roast pork and ham here!

Instructions

Heat a sandwich press or a saute pan

Assemble sandwiches in this order starting from the bottom up

Swiss cheese

Close the sandwich and lightly butter the outside of the top and bottom bun or bread
Step 11
Grill in a sandwich press until golden and toasty or grill one side at a time in a saute pan until golden and toasty, giving the sandwich a little press with your spatula occasionally.
Step 12
Wrap finished sandwiches in aluminum foil or place them in a 275F oven to keep warm until serving.
