Instructions

Step 1
Mix first four ingredients ( oats, flour, brown sugar & baking soda)
Step 2
Cut in butter.
Step 3
Add vanilla extract
Step 4
Reserve 1 cup of mixture and press the remaining into a 9X13 inch cake pan & set aside.

The Filling

Step 5
Place dates, water, brown sugar and butter in a microwave safe dish.
Step 6
Microwave on high uncovered stirring every 2 minutes for 6-8+ minutes (Time will vary depending upon the dates, humidity in your kitchen and your particular microwave.) The dates should be soft and you should be able to stir them to form a paste like consistency.
Step 7
Add vanilla and spread over prepared base.
Step 8
Sprinkle the reserved mixture evenly over the top of the date mixture.
Step 9
Bake at 350F for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
