Ingredients
4 servings
1 poundsirloin steak
1-inch thick
¼ cupcornstarch
1 tablespooncanola oil
¼ teaspoonsalt
1 tablespoonginger
fresh grated
3 clovesgarlic
minced
Red pepper flakes
or chili oil, to taste
¼ cupreduced sodium tamari sauce
for gluten-free, or soy sauce if you prefer
⅓ cupwater
¼ cupbrown sugar
6 stalksscallions
green parts only, cut into 1 inch pieces
Instructions
Step 1
Slice the steak in ¼-inch slices. Lay the slices flat, cover with plastic wrap and use a meat pounder to flatten the meat. Put the meat in a ziploc bag and add the cornstarch. Massage the steak and cornstarch together to make sure each piece is fully coated. Let the starch and meat sit for 5 minutes.
Step 2
2. Spritz the steak generously with canola oil and cook in air fryer at 400 degrees for 8 minutes in fry basket. Add foil to bottom rack to catch and drippings.
Step 3
4. While the steak cooks, add a tablespoon of oil to a pan on medium heat. Once oil is heated up, add the ginger, garlic, and chili oil or red pepper flakes (if desired for more spice) to the pan and sauté for 10-15 seconds.
Step 4
5. Stir in tamari (or soy sauce), water and brown sugar and bring the mixture to a boil.
Step 5
6. Fold the steak in and let the sauce thicken for 20-30 seconds. (The cornstarch used on the steak should thicken the sauce.)
Step 6
7. Turn off the heat, add the green onions, and stir to combine.
Step 7
8. Serve over white rice, rice noodles or in lettuce wraps.
