Pre-heat the oven to 200°C

Peel, core and slice the apples into even cubes. Spread them out in the oven-proof dish.

Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon onto the apples and shake them around until they are just combined.
For the scones
Step 4
Into a bowl, pour in the self-raising flour. Remember to leave some for later as you will need it to roll out the dough!

Using a pastry knife, cut up the softened margarine into even cubes and toss them into the flour.

With your fingertips, rub into the flour until it resembles slightly golden breadcrumbs.

Stir in the sugar.
Step 8
Add most of the milk and stir with the pastry knife to form a dough. Add a little more milk or more flour if needed.
Step 9
Sprinkle the extra flour onto a worktop and roll out the dough with your hands until it is 2cm thick.
Step 10
Cut out the rounds with a scone cutter or a normal cutter.
Step 11
Place the cut out scones onto the apples in the oven-proof dish.
Step 12
Bake for 12-15mins at 200°C.
