Try this healthy re-do of an All-American favorite. If you want, you can freeze individual portions of the sandwich filling and serve thawed and heated on fresh and serve thawed and heated on fresh hamburger buns.

Ingredients

2 teaspoonsolive oil
1onion
diced
1sweet red pepper
seeds removed and finely chopped
1.5 poundsground turkey
preferably breast meat only
1 ½ cupsmarinara sauce
preferably with no more than 500mg sodium per 1/2 cup
2 tablespoonsapple cider vinegar
¼ teaspooncinnamon
½ teaspoonsalt
4whole grain hamburger buns

Instructions
Step 1
Heat a large skillet over medium heat and coat with oil. Add onion and sweet pepper. Cook 3 minutes, stirring often.
Step 2
Add turkey (or beans) and cook, stirring often, until browned, about 3 minutes.
Step 3
Add marinara sauce, vinegar, cinnamon and salt. Bring to a simmer and cook 5 minutes.
Step 4
Divide mixture evenly across 4 sliced, open rolls and serve.
