Preheat oven to 350°F

Completely melt butter and leave out to chill to a lukewarm temperature.

In a small bowl, mix flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.

In a larger bowl, mix the melted butter with brown sugar and sugar.

In the larger bowl, add in the egg and vanilla extract.

Add the mixture from the first smaller bowl into the larger bowl in small increments. Fold and stir together until even mixed.

Add in chocolate chips to mixture, folding, and stirring together until everything is evenly mixed together.

Roll cookie dough into large balls and place onto a baking sheet with a cookie sheet. Balls should be just a bit smaller than a tennis ball.

Bake cookies for 15 minutes (12 minutes if cookies are smaller). Let rest for at least 5 minutes before serving.
