Trailer Park Picnic Sandwich

7 steps
Prep:5min
A cold sandwich you can eat while pregnant (which was my main motivation). I used white bread because it's the only sandwich bread I can tolerate (I have an issue with the texture of most bread), but you can do whatever you want. I would also recommend using actual fried chicken as opposed to a fried chicken tender or something. Oh! And Louisiana style hot sauce is definitely a must, if you try to sub any other kind I can't guarantee it will taste any good. Good luck!

Instructions

Step 1
Pretty standard sandwich assembly process. I spread the seasoned mayo on one of the slices of bread. (Seasoned mayo is literally just mayonnaise I added garlic powder and Italian seasoning to).

Step 2
Next I added the tomato slices. I cut mine thinner for a few reasons: the first being that larger tomato slices have a habit of slipping and sliding around and making the actual process of eating the sandwich a lot messier. The second is so I could avoid overwhelming the flavors. I wanted a relatively balanced and even flavor profile and a few thin cut tomato slices worked really well for me.

Step 3
Iceberg lettuce comes next. Iceberg lettuce is pretty much the only acceptable lettuce for a classic, cold sandwich like this, in my opinion. I took a leaf and broke it up so I could create a layer with the coverage and thickness I wanted.

Step 4
Then I added the fried chicken. Mine was leftovers so it was cold, which I think would probably work better for this anyway. I broke down the meat into small pieces and spread it out over the lettuce. Then I took the fried chicken skin and added a layer of that separately.

Step 5
Adding the cheese is pretty straightforward, just go ahead and rest it over what you've already built.

Step 6
Finally, I dressed it with the hot sauce. I can't in good conscience tell you how much I put-- I'm a big hot sauce fan and I tend to over do it by most people's measure, so you're going to have to just go with what makes you comfortable.

Step 7
I feel like this step is obvious but go ahead and close it off with a plain piece of bread. Ta-da! Sandwich.
