Instructions
Step 1
In a mixing bowl place your sugar , warm water and yeast . Mix well then let sit for 5 minutes to activate
Step 2
After 5 minutes your yeast should not be frothy . Add in your flour , melted butter and salt
Step 3
Place into your electric mixer and knead for 5 minutes or until the dough becomes soft and stretchy . If doing by hand could take 10-15 minutes .
Step 4
In a greased bowl place your dough , cover and let rise for at least an hour in a warm place until doubled in size
Step 5
Divide your dough into 10 rolling each of them into round balls .
Step 6
Using your thumb poke a hole in the middle of each of your dough balls rotating them around until a perfect circle forms in the middle . Place each bagel onto parchment paper . ( I cut out the parchment paper into perfect sizes for the bagels )
Step 7
Bring 10 cups of water to a boil with 1/4 cups baking soda . Turn stove off and place your bagels into the hot water . Gently submerging them . They only need to be in the water for around 45 seconds to 1 minute . This will take a few batches .
Step 8
Now place your wet bagels onto a cookie tray lined with parchment paper . Brush with egg wash and add your favourite toppings . ( I used everything bagel )
Step 9
Place into the oven for around 15 minutes at 400 degrees . Let cool before slicing
