STIR-FRIED SAVOY CABBAGE

6 steps
Prep:10minCook:10min
This quick and easy Chinese-inspired recipe uses just a few cheap ingredients to transform Savoy cabbage into a tasty, slimming-friendly side dish. This Stir-fried Savoy Cabbage would be perfect served as part of a Chinese fakeaway or even alongside other meat or fish for a midweek meal. Try it with a Chinese-style dish such as our Kung Pao Pork (here). If you love your food super-spicy then you can leave the seeds in the chilli to give it a bit of extra heat – you could even add another chilli to spice things up more if you like! Instructions

Step 1
Preheat the grill on a medium setting.
Step 2
Put the sesame seeds in a small ovenproof dish and place under the hot grill to toast for 3–4 minutes until golden, taking care to watch them carefully as they can burn easily. Set aside.
Step 3
Spray a large frying pan or wok with some low-calorie cooking spray and place over a medium heat. Add the chilli, garlic and ginger and fry for 1–2 minutes, until just turning lightly golden. Increase the heat to high and add the cabbage, rice wine vinegar, soy sauce and sweetener or sugar, and stir-fry for 3–4 minutes, stirring constantly. Be careful not to overcook the cabbage – it should still retain some crispness and its bright colour.
Step 4
Season to taste with salt and pepper and serve at once, sprinkled with the toasted sesame seeds.
Step 5
SWAP THIS:Swap the cabbage for roughly sliced pak choi.
Step 6
TIP:When stir-frying, use a high heat and keep moving the cabbage around the frying pan or wok to ensure it cooks quickly and stays fresh and crisp.
