Khrustyky / Verhuny / Vertuty are different names of the same delicacy in different regions of Ukraine. My grandma called them twigs. They are strips of dough deep-fried and sprinkled with powdered sugar. I think it was one of the first dishes I learned to make as a teenager. Kids love making and eating them!
You will need about 3 cups of vegetable oil for frying. I prefer avocado oil.

Instructions
Step 1
In a bowl, combine all ingredients but flour and baking powder and beat together using a whisk.
Step 2
Add the flour and knead it into a dough. Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for about 15 minutes.
Step 3
Lightly dust your working surface with flour and roll the dough 1/8" thick. Cut the dough into strips 2" wide and 4" long. In the middle of each strip, make a slit and pull one end of the strip through the slit 1 or 2 times.
Step 4
Heat the oil to 360F. Fry a few Khrustyky at a time until golden brown, turning.
Step 5
When all cookies are fried and cooled, dust them with powdered sugar. Enjoy!
