Tasty Hungarian Chicken Paprikash

11 steps
Prep:5minCook:1h 10min
Chicken paprikash is one of the staples of Hungarian cuisine. And very tasteful too. I make this when I crave something warm, soupy and comforting. It's a one-pan wonderful recipe, takes some time to cook, but the preparation is easy and it's definitely worth it! NOTE: Vegeta is a famous Croatian spice made from salt and dried vegetables. It is used in almost every dish! It is sold worldwide so you might be able to find it, but if not - you will probably be able to find a substitute, or if no luck, skip it altogether. NOTE: If you want to reduce some fat in the dish - you can remove the skin from the chicken. It’s still ultra delicious. :)

Step 4
Remove from the heat (so it doesn't burn), make some space in the middle of the pan and add paprika. Mix it with some fat on the pan and roast a little on residual heat. Than mix it all together.
Step 5
Add the Vegeta and chilli spice and stir everything together.
Step 6
Now add the water in. NOTE: If you wish to get more sauce at the end, you can probably add some more seasonings and water, but don't overdo it.
Step 7
Add parsley and bay leaves. Cook for around 1 hour on low-medium heat half-covered with a lid, and and stir occasionally.

Step 8
When you are ready to eat make some space in the middle of the paprikash containing pan and whisk in the sour cream. Make sure it is broken down and well blended with the paprikash. Bring to a short, gentle boil.
Step 9
Around 15 minutes before the end of cooking or around 15 minutes before you plan to eat, prepare the fusili pasta, or other pasta of your choice.
Step 10
Take a deep plate, or even better pasta plate and put some fusilli in.
Now add 1 drumstick and 1 thigh from the Paprikash.
And now the best part - use a ladle to add in some of the magnificent sauce over the meat and pasta.
