A simple recipe and always a crowd pleaser and a family favourite since our kids were little! I often double or triple the recipe.

Ingredients
36 servings
1 cupbutter
or margarine, I sometimes do half and half marg and butter
1 cupwhite sugar
1egg
1 tspvanilla
2 ¾ cupsall-purpose flour
2 tspbaking powder
For the Icing
Instructions
Step 1
Combine butter or margarine with sugar and mix well.
Step 2
Add vanilla and eggs blending until light and fluffy.
Step 3
Combine flour and baking powder.
Step 4
Add dry to wet mixture and combine throughly.
Step 5
Divide into two balls. (DO NOT CHILL)
Step 6
Roll out to 1/4 inch thickness on floured board and cut into desired shapes.
Step 7
Bake for 6-8 minutes at 350F.

Cool on wire racks.

For the Icing

Add liquid to icing sugar and mix well. (I like to make icing the consistency of a thin paint so I can brush it on and it doesn't overpower the flavour of the cookie.)

Divide into separate containers and add different food colouring to each.

Brush cookies with desired colour of icing and add sprinkles or pipe icing on if you prefer.
