Easy 20 Minute Chicken Teriyaki (No Marinade needed)

You'll create juicy and flavorful chicken teriyaki in about the same amount of time it takes to cook rice. 1 lbboneless skinless chicken thighs
1 ½ tspsalt
1 ½ tspblack pepper
2 tspgarlic powder
1 Tbspneutral oil

Teriyaki Sauce
½ cuplow sodium soy sauce
¼ cupmirin
2 Tbspbrown sugar
2 Tbsphoney
1 tspsesame oil
4garlic cloves

¼ tspground ginger

Instructions
Step 1
Clean and pat dry each of the boneless skinless chicken thighs.
Step 2
Generously season each side of the chicken thighs with salt, black pepper and garlic powder.

Step 3
Preheat a large skillet with a neutral oil over medium high heat.

Step 4
Carefully, place the chicken thighs in the hot skillet.
Step 5
Brown the chicken thighs for about 4 minutes on each side.
Step 6
Once the chicken thighs are golden brown on each side, remove them from the skillet, leaving the residual oil and fond.
Step 7
Add in the soy sauce, mirin, honey, sesame oil, brown sugar and minced garlic.

Add in the ground ginger (1/4 tsp) or freshly grated ginger (1/2 tsp).

Reduce the heat to medium and allow the teriyaki sauce to simmer about 2 minutes.
Step 10
Add the chicken thighs back into the skillet and allow it to simmer in the sauce for 4-6 minutes.
Step 11
Continuously spoon the sauce over the chicken thighs and monitor closely to avoid any burning.
Step 12
If you prefer a thicker sauce, remove the chicken thighs and stir in a cornstarch slurry (1 tbsp cornstarch to 1 tbsp water) and cook until the sauce has thickened slightly.
Step 13
Slice and serve the chicken with extra teriyaki sauce.
Step 14
Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.
