Ingredients
6 servings
¼ cupolive oil
1 ½ cupsred lentils
rinsed clear
1onion
chopped
2garlic cloves
crushed
½ tspground turmeric
1 tspground cumin
½ tspblack pepper
6 cupswater
1 Tbspchicken bouillon paste low sodium
optional
1 tspsalt
to taste
½ cuplemon juice
to taste

Instructions
Step 1
On medium high heat sauté the lentils with olive oil for about 3 minutes. Add the onion and garlic cloves and sauté for another 5 minutes. Mix around the turmeric, cumin, and black pepper for a minute.
Step 2
Pour water. Mix around the chicken bouillon. Bring the soup to a boil. Once at a boil bring the heat down to low and simmer for 20 minutes.
Step 3
Add more water as needed to your desired consistency. Blend smooth. Add salt and lemon juice to taste. Serve hot and top with sumac and pita chips.
